The works in this exhibition are only a small selection of the collection, which includes more than 300 photographs that document the social protest movement, from Rosa Parks\u2019s arrest to the Freedom Rides to the tumultuous demonstrations of the late 1960s. The city of Atlanta\u2014the birthplace of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.\u2014was a hub of civil rights activism and it figures prominently in the collection.<\/p>\n Portraits of African Americans The National Portrait Gallery\u2019s collection is home to more than 1,000 portraits of African American history-makers. From eighteenth-century poet Phillis Wheatley to former First Lady Michelle Obama, discover portraits of African Americans whose lives and achievements have contributed to the history and development of our nation.<\/p>\n \u201cChez Baldwin,\u201d Virtual Exhibit on<\/a>\u00a0<\/u><\/b>James Baldwin An Exploration of James Baldwin\u2019s Life and Works Through the Powerful Lens of His House \u201cChez Baldwin\u201d in St. Paul de Vence, France<\/p>\n Rosa Parks in Her Own Words Rosa Parks: In Her Own Words showcases rarely seen materials that offer an intimate view of Rosa Parks and documents her life and activism\u2014creating a rich opportunity for viewers to discover new dimensions to their understanding of this seminal figure.<\/p>\n Art by African Americans exhibition The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has one of the most significant collections of works by African American artists in the nation, and many acquisitions were made possible by the MFA\u2019s Heritage Fund for a Diverse Collection.
