This Developmental Disabilities Month, we’re proud to introduce Jerry, who has been growing more confident, forming new relationships, and spreading positivity as a participant in our Behavioral Stabilization Unit (BSU).

Jerry joined Humanim’s BSU in 2025, seeking personalized support and a setting where he could succeed. In the beginning, he spent most days quietly, since learning names and building trust with the team took time.

Keion, one of the behavioral technicians working with Jerry, noticed that he often arrived at the day program wearing sports-themed clothing. That observation led to regular conversations about sports, which helped Jerry feel more at ease. Football is his favorite, and he is an enthusiastic Washington Commanders and New England Patriots fan. He also enjoys baseball and basketball, following and cheering for local teams.

Today, Jerry’s favorite part of being at Humanim is socializing. He gets along well with his peers and has built strong friendships throughout the program. One of his favorite memories is attending the county fair with friends and enjoying fried Oreos. “I see him becoming more comfortable with his peers and opening up with new participants to help them feel comfortable,” says Keion.

Looking ahead, Jerry is eager to strengthen his community connections by volunteering and meeting new people.
